Explosive Power for RBs: The 3-Step Box Drill
At Div I programs like Appoquinimink Jaguars, running backs are constantly looking for ways to improve their explosiveness and power. One effective drill to achieve this is the 3-Step Box Drill. This drill targets the glutes, hamstrings, and quads, which are essential for generating force and speed. Here's how to run it: Set up three boxes or cones in a row, spaced 3 feet apart. Have the RB start at the first box, then perform a 3-step approach before exploding up and over the box. Focus on quick turnover and explosive power. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include: 'Step, step, step, EXPLODE!' and 'Drive through the box, don't just jump over it.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the RB's ability to accelerate and decelerate quickly, making them a more elusive and effective runner.
