Quarterback Quick Release Drill for Div I Programs

๐Ÿ“ Appoquinimink JaguarsยทFriday, July 17, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To improve quarterback quick release and accuracy, Appoquinimink Jaguars' head coach, John Smith, recommends the following drill during summer training camps. Set up four to six stations with a quarterback target at each. Divide the quarterbacks into groups of three and have them rotate through each station. At each station, quarterbacks will start in a shotgun formation with their feet shoulder-width apart and their eyes focused on the target. On the whistle, they must drop back three steps, plant their back foot, and quickly release the ball to the target. Focus on proper footwork and a quick release. Aim for 3 sets of 5 reps at each station. This drill translates to game performance by improving the quarterback's ability to quickly identify and attack open receivers, reducing the time between snap and release.
