Elevate Your QB Game with the 'Read and React' Drill
At Smyrna Eagles football camp, quarterback coach, Mark Johnson, is implementing a crucial drill to prepare his signal-callers for the upcoming season. The 'Read and React' drill is designed to sharpen QBs' ability to read defenses and make split-second decisions. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest in between sets. Players will line up 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage and face a defender who will be playing man-to-man coverage. The QB must read the defender's alignment and react accordingly, making a quick decision to either throw a pass or hand off to the running back. Coaching cues include 'eyes on the defender' and 'react to the coverage.' This drill translates to game performance by improving QBs' ability to read defenses and make quick decisions under pressure.
