Chaminade-Madonna Lions QBs: Master the 'Quick Release' Drill
Quarterbacks at 3A powerhouse Chaminade-Madonna Lions can take their game to the next level with the 'Quick Release' drill. This exercise targets the QB's ability to rapidly release the ball, reducing exposure to sacks and improving accuracy. To run the drill, divide the QBs into pairs with one QB as the 'thrower' and the other as the 'receiver'. The thrower starts 5 yards behind the receiver, who is facing them. On the coach's whistle, the thrower sprints towards the receiver while dropping back into a 3-step drop. The thrower must release the ball within 2 seconds of the whistle. The receiver focuses on catching the ball while avoiding contact. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. This drill translates to game performance by teaching QBs to quickly process information and release the ball before defenders can react.
