Unlocking Separation: WR Drill for 7A Programs
As the 2026 season approaches, 7A programs like the Grayson Rams are gearing up for a competitive year. One key area of focus for wide receivers is developing the ability to separate from defenders. To achieve this, we recommend the 'Route Box Drill.' Set up a 10x10 grid with cones, with each square representing a different route (in, out, post, etc.). Have receivers start at the line of scrimmage and sprint to the grid, executing a specific route on each cone. Coaches should provide real-time feedback on footwork, hand placement, and body positioning. Aim for 3 sets of 5 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving a receiver's ability to quickly change direction and create separation from defenders. By mastering the Route Box Drill, Grayson Rams WRs will be well-prepared for the 2026 season.
