Eagles' Edge: Sprints to Speed for Collins Hill S Players

๐Ÿ“ Collins Hill EaglesยทSunday, July 12, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Collins Hill Eagles prepare for the 2026 season, secondary coach, Mark Smith, emphasizes the importance of explosive speed for his safeties. To improve their acceleration, Smith incorporates a specific drill into their summer camp workouts. The 'Sprint to 5' drill consists of 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players start at the 10-yard line, sprinting to the 5-yard line, then immediately change direction and sprint back to the 10-yard line. Coaching cues include keeping the head down, driving through the legs, and exploding out of the backpedal. This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time and allowing safeties to quickly close gaps on opponents. By incorporating the 'Sprint to 5' drill into their training, Collins Hill's S players will be better equipped to handle the demands of 7A football.
