Unlocking Buford's Defensive Dominance: DE Drill for Summer Camp
For 6A programs like the Buford Wolves, dominating on the defensive line requires a combination of strength, speed, and technique. To help DEs improve their pass rush, we recommend the 'Rip and Drive' drill. Set up a series of cones or markers 5 yards apart, with a defender starting at the first cone. On the whistle, the defender must 'rip' their inside foot and drive towards the next cone, focusing on explosive acceleration and maintaining a low center of gravity. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'rip the ground' and 'drive through the cone.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the DE's ability to quickly change direction and generate power off the line, making them a nightmare for opposing offenses to block.
