Unlock Explosive Kicking for the Hawks: The 3-Step Approach Drill

๐Ÿ“ Mill Creek HawksยทThursday, July 30, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Mill Creek Hawks prepare for the upcoming 7A season, special teams coach, John Smith, emphasizes the importance of explosive kicking. To develop this critical skill, Coach Smith recommends the 3-Step Approach Drill. This drill targets the player's ability to quickly build speed and generate power from a stationary position. The drill consists of three sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players start in a kicking stance, take a small step forward with their non-kicking foot, and then explosively drive through the ball. Coaching cues include 'step, plant, drive' and 'keep the kicking leg straight.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing kickers to quickly build speed and generate power, resulting in more accurate and longer kicks. By incorporating the 3-Step Approach Drill into their training, Hawks kickers can gain a competitive edge this season.
