Speed and Agility Drill for S Players at Open Programs

๐Ÿ“ Kahuku Red RaidersยทFriday, July 3, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At open programs like Kahuku Red Raiders, S players need to be quick and agile to keep up with the offense. One effective drill to improve speed and agility is the 'Ladder Crossover Drill.' Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 rungs. Divide the players into pairs, with one player as the 'leader' and the other as the 'follower.' The leader starts at one end of the ladder and performs a lateral shuffle through the rungs, then immediately performs a crossover step with the non-lead foot. The follower mirrors the leader's movements. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cue: 'Keep your eyes up and focus on the next step.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the S player's ability to quickly change direction and stay with receivers, making it easier to cover and make tackles.
