Speed and Agility for S Players: 'Ladder Cuts' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Kahuku Red RaidersยทTuesday, July 7, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At Open programs like Kahuku Red Raiders, speed and agility training is crucial for S players. Here's a drill to improve their quickness and reaction time. The 'Ladder Cuts' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps. Set up a ladder on the field with 5 rungs. S players start at one end, then perform a lateral cut through the ladder, focusing on keeping their feet close to the rungs. As they exit the ladder, they immediately perform a 5-yard dash to the next cone. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to change direction quickly and react to ball carriers. It also enhances their acceleration and deceleration, allowing them to stay with faster opponents. Run this drill 2-3 times a week for optimal results.
