FridayNightPulse DE Drill: 'Rip and Recover'
At summer open programs like Kamehameha Warriors, defensive end players can improve their speed, agility, and pass-rush technique with the 'Rip and Recover' drill. This high-intensity exercise targets the muscles used in explosive acceleration and deceleration. To set up the drill, mark a 10-yard distance on the field with cones. Players start at the 5-yard line, then sprint to the 10-yard line (rip) and immediately change direction to sprint back to the 5-yard line (recover). Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Rip like a wildfire,' 'Change direction quickly,' and 'Recover with control.' This drill translates to game performance by improving players' ability to quickly accelerate and decelerate, allowing them to chase down ballcarriers and pressure the quarterback.
