Explosive Power for 4A Running Backs: The Valley Tiger Shuttle Drill
This summer, West Des Moines Valley Tigers running backs can dominate on the field with the Valley Tiger Shuttle Drill. This drill combines speed, agility, and power to improve RBs' ability to change direction and accelerate through holes. To run the drill, set up 5 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Divide the RBs into pairs, with one player starting at each end of the course. On the coach's signal, each player sprints to the cone in front of them, then quickly changes direction and accelerates to the next cone. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Quick feet, explosive power!' and 'Change direction, accelerate!' This drill translates to game performance by allowing RBs to quickly adjust to blockers and find holes in the defense.
