Quarterback Quick Release Drill
Dowling Catholic Maroons quarterbacks can take their game to the next level with the Quick Release Drill. This exercise targets the quarterback's ability to quickly release the ball, a crucial skill in today's fast-paced 4A football. To set up the drill, divide the quarterbacks into pairs with one quarterback as the 'thrower' and the other as the 'receiver'. The thrower will start in the shotgun formation with the receiver 5-7 yards downfield. The thrower will receive a snap and must release the ball within 2 seconds. The receiver will focus on running a 5-yard out route. The drill will consist of 3 sets of 10 reps with a 30-second rest in between sets. Coaching cues include 'quick eyes, quick release' and 'snap to throw, don't throw to snap'. This drill translates to game performance by allowing quarterbacks to develop muscle memory for quick releases and improve their ability to read defenses and make accurate throws under pressure.
