FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Dowling Catholic Maroons RB Drill

๐Ÿ“ Dowling Catholic MaroonsยทWednesday, July 29, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This week's training tip is designed to improve the speed and agility of running backs at 4A programs like Dowling Catholic Maroons. The 'Ladder Weave' drill is a great way to work on quick changes of direction and explosive acceleration. Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 rungs. Have the RB player start at one end of the ladder and perform a lateral shuffle through the rungs, focusing on keeping their feet close to the ground and their knees bent. After completing the weave, have the player immediately accelerate out of the ladder and sprint 10-15 yards downfield. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 reps. Coaching cue: 'Keep your feet light and your eyes up, let's see you explode out of the ladder!' This drill translates to game performance by allowing the RB to quickly change direction and accelerate out of cuts, making them a more elusive and effective runner.
