FridayNightPulse: Tight End Training Tip for Mountain View Mavericks

๐Ÿ“ Mountain View MavericksยทWednesday, July 1, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To improve blocking technique and footwork for 5A tight ends, try the 'Box Drill'. Divide players into pairs, with one player as the blocker and the other as the defender. Set up a 5-yard box with cones. The blocker must start in a 3-point stance, then explosively drive into the defender, focusing on keeping their head up, elbows in, and hands inside. The defender must stay square, with their feet shoulder-width apart and hands up. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'Drive, don't lean' and 'Keep your eyes up, stay square'. This drill translates to game performance by improving the tight end's ability to seal the edge and create space for the running back.
