FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Tight End Dominance with the 'Box Out' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Boise BraveยทSaturday, July 18, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At 5A programs like the Boise Brave, tight end production can be the difference-maker in a championship season. To improve their blocking prowess, we recommend incorporating the 'Box Out' drill into your summer camp regimen. This drill targets the TE's ability to seal the edge and create a seam for the running back. Set up cones in a 5-yard box, with the TE starting at the top of the box. On the whistle, they must quickly close the gap to the cone, using their feet and hands to 'box out' the defender. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Close the gap,' 'Seal the edge,' and 'Protect the seam.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching TEs to quickly adjust to defensive schemes and create opportunities for their team.
