Unlocking Speed and Power: The DE Dash Drill for 8A Programs
For defensive ends at top 8A programs like Loyola Academy Ramblers, speed and power are essential for dominating on the edge. To improve these skills, we recommend the DE Dash Drill. This drill involves 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Players start in a three-point stance, then explosively dash 10 yards downfield, planting their outside foot and turning to face the quarterback. Coaching cues include 'hinge and fire' for the initial explosion and 'stay low, stay fast' for maintaining speed. This drill translates to game performance by improving acceleration and agility, allowing DEs to quickly close gaps and pressure the quarterback. By incorporating the DE Dash Drill into their pre-season training, Loyola Academy's defensive ends can gain a competitive edge this fall.
