FridayNightPulse Training Tip: RB Power and Speed Development for 8A Programs
At Brother Rice Crusaders, we're focusing on RB power and speed development this pre-season. One effective drill for our 8A program is the 'Resisted Shuttle Run'. This drill targets explosive acceleration and deceleration, essential for RBs in today's high-speed game. Here's how to run it: 3 sets of 5 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. Place a resistance band around the RB's waist, anchored to a stable object. From a 3-point stance, have them explode forward 10 yards, then quickly change direction and decelerate to a stop. Coaching cues: 'Fast feet, quick hands' and 'Accelerate, then brake'. This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to quickly change direction and maintain top-end speed, making them more elusive in the open field.
