Quarterback Readiness: Carmel Greyhounds' Pre-Season Drill

๐Ÿ“ Carmel GreyhoundsยทTuesday, July 7, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Quarterbacks at 6A programs like Carmel Greyhounds need to be razor-sharp in their decision-making and accuracy. To prepare for the upcoming season, we've identified a key drill to focus on: the 'Quick Read and Throw' exercise. This drill involves setting up three cones in a triangle formation, with one cone 5 yards deep and the other two cones 7 yards deep. The quarterback starts at the 5-yard cone, reads the defense, and throws to either of the two deeper cones. The drill is completed in sets of 3 reps, with a 30-second rest in between. Coaching cue: 'Read the eyes, throw the ball.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the quarterback's ability to quickly read the defense and deliver the ball to the correct receiver, even under pressure. By incorporating this drill into their pre-season training, Carmel's quarterbacks will be better equipped to handle the physical and mental demands of 6A football.
