Greyhound Grind: Carmel OL Drill for Dominance
As the Carmel Greyhounds prepare for their 6A title run, Offensive Line coach, Mark Smith, emphasizes the importance of developing a strong foundation in footwork and hand placement. To achieve this, Smith implements the 'Greyhound Slide' drill. Players start in a three-point stance, with their feet shoulder-width apart. On the whistle, they explosively slide their feet 3-4 yards to the left, keeping their back straight and core engaged. As they slide, they focus on placing their hands on the ground in a 'W' formation, with their elbows locked and fingers spread. This drill is repeated for 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. The Greyhound Slide improves OL players' ability to quickly change direction and maintain control, essential for blocking and pass protection in game situations.
