DeShawn Smith Commits to UTSA
Cathedral Fighting Irish defensive end DeShawn Smith has committed to the University of Texas at San Antonio, the school announced Thursday. Smith, a Class of 2027 prospect, chose the Roadrunners over several other Division I offers. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Smith is expected to fit into UTSA's 3-4 defensive scheme, where he can utilize his speed and agility off the edge. With the departure of several defensive ends from last season's team, Smith is likely to see significant playing time early in his career. UTSA's strong academic program and research opportunities were also a major draw for Smith. He had previously committed to another school but reopened his recruitment in April. Smith's commitment adds to UTSA's growing 2027 recruiting class, which now ranks among the top in Conference USA.
