Route Running Precision for Cathedral Fighting Irish WRs

๐Ÿ“ Cathedral Fighting IrishยทFriday, July 31, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, 5A programs like Cathedral Fighting Irish can improve their wide receivers' route running with the 'Speed Box Drill'. Set up a 10x10 foot box with cones on each corner. Divide the box into four quadrants. Have WRs start at one corner and sprint to the adjacent quadrant, performing a specific route (e.g., slant, out, or post). Focus on quick footwork, precise cuts, and maintaining top speed. Complete 3 sets of 5 reps in each quadrant. Coaching cues include 'square your feet to the route', 'keep your eyes on the quarterback', and 'drive through the finish'. This drill translates to game performance by improving WRs' ability to quickly change direction and maintain speed, making them more effective in the open field.
