Sprint Drills for Speed and Agility: A Pre-Season Focus for 5A S Players

๐Ÿ“ Mill Valley JaguarsยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Mill Valley Jaguars prepare for the upcoming 5A season, S players can benefit from a specific drill that targets speed and agility. The 'Ladder Weave' drill is designed to improve quickness, change of direction, and acceleration. Set up a ladder on the field with 5-6 rungs. S players will start at one end, then weave through the ladder in a zig-zag pattern, focusing on keeping their feet close to the ground and their knees bent. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include 'quick feet' and 'stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by improving S players' ability to quickly react to ball carriers and change direction on the fly, making them more effective defenders.
