Golden Eagles' CBs Get Ready for Fall with the 'Shadow' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Bishop Carroll Golden EaglesยทSaturday, July 25, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Bishop Carroll's cornerbacks are sharpening their skills with the 'Shadow' drill, a key component of their pre-season training. The drill is designed to improve reaction time, footwork, and ball awareness. To set up, divide the cornerbacks into pairs, with one player as the 'receiver' and the other as the 'corner.' The receiver will run a 5-yard out route, while the corner must react quickly and stay in phase with the receiver. The coach will call out 'shadow' and the corner must match the receiver's every step, staying within 1-2 feet. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues include 'stay on their hip' and 'match their speed.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing cornerbacks to develop the quick reactions and agility needed to stay with receivers in man coverage.
