Male Bulldogs CBs: Master the 'Shadow' Drill for Lockdown Coverage

๐Ÿ“ Male BulldogsยทFriday, July 10, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

High school cornerbacks at 6A programs like Male Bulldogs need to be quick, agile, and precise in their coverage. The 'Shadow' drill is designed to improve these skills. Set up a 10-yard box with a defender and a receiver. The defender starts 5 yards off the receiver. On the coach's signal, the receiver starts running a 5-yard out route. The defender must immediately 'shadow' the receiver, staying within 1 yard of their hip. Complete 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues: 'Stay on their hip,' 'Don't let them get ahead,' and 'React to the ball.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching cornerbacks to stay disciplined and react quickly to receivers' movements.
