Rebel QBs: Mastering the 'Read and React' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Boyle County RebelsยทFriday, July 10, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

As the Boyle County Rebels prepare for another 4A championship run, quarterback development is at the forefront of their summer camp. One key drill to focus on is the 'Read and React' exercise. This drill helps QBs develop their ability to quickly process information and make split-second decisions under pressure. To run this drill, set up a series of cones to simulate a 5-yard deep zone, a 10-yard deep zone, and a blitz. Have your QB start at the 5-yard line and read the defensive alignment. If the defender is in the 5-yard zone, they should take a 3-step drop and deliver a quick pass. If the defender is in the 10-yard zone, they should take a 5-step drop and deliver a deeper pass. If the blitz is called, they should take a 1-step drop and deliver a quick pass. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest in between.
