Shamrock WRs: Master the 'Release and Run' Drill

๐Ÿ“ Trinity ShamrocksยทSaturday, July 18, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Trinity Shamrocks wide receivers can take their game to the next level with the 'Release and Run' drill. Designed to improve separation from defenders and acceleration off the line, this drill is perfect for 6A programs like Trinity. Set up three stations: a 5-yard line, a 10-yard line, and a 15-yard line. At each station, place a defender 5 yards off the line. Have your WRs start in a 3-point stance, then explosively release off the line, beating the defender to the 10-yard line. From there, they must accelerate to the 15-yard line, maintaining top-end speed. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps at each station. Coaching cues: 'Quick release,' 'beat the defender,' and 'finish with speed.' This drill translates to game performance by teaching WRs to quickly separate from defenders and maintain speed down the field, making them a threat in the Trinity Shamrocks' passing game.
