Agility Ladder Drill for 6A Defensive Ends

๐Ÿ“ Male BulldogsยทTuesday, July 21, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At top 6A programs like Male Bulldogs, defensive ends need to be quick and agile to contain the opponent's quarterback and running back. To improve their speed and agility, defensive line coach can implement the following drill: Agility Ladder Carioca Drill. Set up an agility ladder on the field and have the defensive end perform a carioca drill, moving their feet in and out of the ladder. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick footwork and explosive acceleration. Coaching cue: 'Quick feet, explosive hips.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the defensive end's ability to change direction quickly and maintain speed while pursuing the ball carrier. It also enhances their agility and reaction time, allowing them to stay in position and make plays on the ball.
