Defensive End Dominance: The 'Rip and Recover' Drill
As the Male Bulldogs prepare for the upcoming season, defensive end coach, Mark Smith, emphasizes the importance of speed and agility in his players. This summer, Smith has introduced the 'Rip and Recover' drill to help his DEs improve their quickness and reaction time. The drill involves three sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds of rest in between each set. Players start in a three-point stance, then explosively rip to the left or right, before quickly recovering to the original stance. Coaching cues include 'rip like a snake' and 'recover like a cat.' This drill translates to game performance by allowing DEs to quickly close gaps and recover to the quarterback, increasing their chances of making a tackle for loss. By incorporating the 'Rip and Recover' drill into their training regimen, DEs can develop the speed and agility needed to dominate on the field.
