FridayNightPulse Training Tip: Covington Catholic Colonels TE Drill

๐Ÿ“ Covington Catholic ColonelsยทWednesday, July 22, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This week's training tip is designed specifically for Tight End players at 5A programs like Covington Catholic Colonels. The 'Route Box Drill' focuses on improving TE's ability to quickly release from the line of scrimmage and create separation from defenders. Set up 5x5 yards boxes with cones, with a defender at each corner. The TE will start in the box, then release on a 5-yard out route, focusing on quick feet and hand placement. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'Quick feet, quick hands' and 'Release to the numbers.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the TE's ability to quickly get open and create separation from defenders, making them a more reliable target for the quarterback.
