Lock and Mirror: A CB Drill for 4A Dominance

๐Ÿ“ Edna Karr CougarsยทSunday, July 19, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For cornerbacks at 4A programs like Edna Karr Cougars, fine-tuning footwork and reaction time is crucial. The Lock and Mirror drill targets these skills, preparing CBs for in-game situations. Set up two cones 10 yards apart, with a third cone 5 yards beyond the second. Divide players into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the cornerback. The receiver starts at the first cone, while the cornerback starts at the third cone. On the coach's signal, the receiver sprints to the second cone, and the cornerback mirrors the receiver's movements, staying locked onto them. After 3 sets of 10 reps, switch roles and repeat. This drill translates to game performance by improving CBs' ability to stay with receivers on deep routes and react quickly to changes in direction.
