FridayNightPulse: Defensive End Drill for 5A Programs
Catholic High Bears defensive ends can expect to see increased pressure and speed from opponents this season. To prepare for the challenge, Coach Thompson recommends the 'Rush & React' drill. Players will start in a three-point stance, 10 yards off the line of scrimmage. On the whistle, they'll rush the quarterback, focusing on a quick inside move and a strong finish. After the rush, they'll pivot and react to a pass play, dropping into coverage and turning their back to the quarterback. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include 'hustle to the quarterback' and 'eyes on the ball.' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time and quickness off the edge, allowing defensive ends to make plays in the backfield and in coverage.
