Unlocking Tight End Potential: The 'Y' Route Drill

๐Ÿ“ St. Frances Academy PanthersยทFriday, July 3, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, MIAA tight ends at St. Frances Academy Panthers and other top programs can take their game to the next level with the 'Y' Route Drill. This drill focuses on developing the quick release, separation, and hands needed to excel in the passing game. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Players line up 5 yards off the line, with a defender 5 yards off the line as well. On the snap, the tight end runs a 5-yard 'Y' route, focusing on quick release and separation from the defender. Coaching cues include 'release, release, release' and 'hands up, hands up.' This drill translates to game performance by improving tight ends' ability to create separation and secure passes in traffic.
