Explosive Power for RBs: Good Counsel Falcons' Summer Drill
This summer, Good Counsel Falcons' running back coach is emphasizing explosive power development through a specific drill. The 'Box Jump and Blast' drill targets the muscles used in acceleration and deceleration, essential for RBs in the WCAC. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps: box jumps (24 inches) followed by a 5-yard sprint to a designated 'blast' zone, where players perform a 2-foot lateral jump. Coaching cues include: 'Explode upward, then immediately drive your legs to propel yourself forward.' 'Keep your knees bent and weight in your heels.' This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to quickly change direction and accelerate through holes, making them more elusive defenders. By incorporating this drill into their summer training, Good Counsel Falcons' RBs will be better equipped to dominate on the field this fall.
