Explosive Power for Windham Eagles RBs: The Box Step Drill
At Windham Eagles football camp, running backs are working on a crucial drill to improve their explosiveness and power. The Box Step Drill targets the key muscles used in cutting, accelerating, and decelerating on the field. The drill consists of three sets of 10 reps: 1) Step into a box (2x2 feet) with the inside foot, 2) Step out of the box with the outside foot, and 3) Immediately step back into the box with the inside foot. Coaches will cue players to 'step hard, not soft' and 'explosively accelerate out of the box.' This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to quickly change direction and accelerate past defenders. It's a key component of Windham Eagles' summer training program, helping players develop the speed, agility, and power needed to dominate on the field.
