Disrupting the Edge: A DE Drill for C-Programs
For defensive ends at C-program schools like Yarmouth Clippers, dominating the edge requires a combination of speed, agility, and strength. To improve their ability to burst off the line and close on the quarterback, DEs should focus on a specific drill: the 'Rapid Fire' series. This drill involves 3 sets of 5 reps, with 30 seconds of rest between sets. Each rep consists of a 5-yard sprint, followed by a 180-degree cut, and finishing with a 3-yard jump to simulate the explosion needed to close on the QB. Coaching cues include 'Bend and Blast' for the initial sprint, 'Change Direction' for the cut, and 'Jump and Finish' for the final jump. By mastering the 'Rapid Fire' series, DEs will develop the quickness and explosiveness needed to disrupt the edge and make plays in the backfield.
