FridayNightPulse: Elk River Elks Defensive End Drill for 6A Success

๐Ÿ“ Elk River ElksยทWednesday, July 8, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Elk River Elks' defensive line coach has developed a drill to improve pass rush and contain for their 6A defensive ends. The 'Quick Step' drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 2-minute rest between sets. Players start in a 3-point stance, then quickly step forward with their inside foot and immediately transition into a pass rush stance. Coaches cue players to 'step, don't slide' and to 'keep their eyes on the target.' This drill translates to game performance by improving reaction time and allowing defensive ends to quickly close the gap on the quarterback. It also helps develop the strength and power needed to contain the edge and prevent big plays.
