WR Dominance: The '5-7-9' Route Drill for Elk River Elks and 6A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Elk River ElksยทThursday, July 16, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To dominate at the 6A level, wide receivers need to be precise and explosive. The '5-7-9' route drill is a crucial component of Elk River Elks' pre-season training. Set up three cones in a triangular formation, with the receiver starting at the first cone. On the whistle, they sprint 5 yards to the second cone, plant their outside foot, and accelerate 7 yards to the third cone. From there, they decelerate and turn back to the first cone, completing a 9-yard circle. Coaches cue: 'Fast feet, sharp cuts.' Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. This drill translates to game performance by improving speed, agility, and route-running precision. By mastering the '5-7-9,' Elk River Elks WRs will be ready to take on the best of the 6A competition.
