Raiders' QBs: Master the 'Quick Release' Drill at Cretin-Derham Hall

๐Ÿ“ Cretin-Derham Hall RaidersยทSaturday, July 18, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, Cretin-Derham Hall's 5A football program is focusing on developing the quick release in their quarterbacks. To achieve this, we're introducing the 'Quick Release' drill. Set up two cones 5 yards apart, with a third cone 10 yards behind the first two. The QB starts at the first cone, focusing on a quick drop and release. On the coach's signal, the QB drops back, taking 3 steps and releasing the ball to a receiver at the second cone. The receiver must catch the ball in a 3-step window. Repeat for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues: 'Drop, step, release' and 'Catch, don't grab.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the QB's ability to quickly read defenses and deliver the ball to receivers in tight windows.
