Eagles' Eyes: CB Drill for Shutting Down Opponents

๐Ÿ“ Eden Prairie EaglesยทSunday, July 19, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Eden Prairie Eagles' cornerbacks are gearing up for a dominant season, and a key component of their training is the 'Backpedal Shuffle Drill'. This drill targets quick feet, agility, and reaction time โ€“ essential skills for 6A cornerbacks. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players line up 10 yards off the line of scrimmage, then backpedal 5 yards while shuffling their feet. Upon reaching the 5-yard mark, they explosively change direction and sprint back to the line. Coaches cue players to 'keep their eyes on the quarterback' and 'stay low, stay quick'. This drill translates to game performance by improving cornerbacks' ability to stay with receivers on deep routes and quickly recover to the ball.
