Elk River Elks' Multisport Star Eyes Flag Football Scholarships at Top Programs
As the inaugural season of NCAA Division 1 flag football approaches in 2028, multisport athletes like Elk River's standout senior, Emily Johnson, are turning their attention to the emerging sport. Johnson, a 6A standout, has excelled in multiple sports throughout her high school career. With the University of Nebraska's Power 4 status and inaugural flag football program under coaches Liz and Katie Sowers, Johnson is a prime candidate for a scholarship. Other NAIA powerhouses, such as Ottawa University, Kansas, and Keiser University, Florida, also offer up to 12 scholarships. Midland University, Nebraska, is actively recruiting flag football talent. As the 2026-2027 school year begins, Johnson and her teammates can leverage their skills to secure a spot at one of these top programs.
