Raiders' WR Drill: 'Slant and Go' for Cretin-Derham Hall

๐Ÿ“ Cretin-Derham Hall RaidersยทThursday, July 30, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Cretin-Derham Hall's 5A WRs are gearing up for a dominant season with a key drill that simulates game-like situations. The 'Slant and Go' drill targets quick releases, separation, and downfield speed. Set up cones 5 yards apart in a zig-zag pattern. Divide WRs into pairs, with one player as the receiver and the other as the defender. The receiver starts at the line, defender 5 yards off. On the snap, the receiver runs a slant route, then quickly releases to a deep post. The defender must react to the slant, then pursue the receiver downfield. Run 3 sets of 10 reps, with a 30-second rest between sets. Coaching cues: 'Slant and go, slant and go!' for the receiver, and 'React, react, react!' for the defender. This drill translates to game performance by forcing WRs to quickly adjust to coverage and make big plays downfield.
