Explosive Power for RBs: The 'Hawk's Hill Drill'
This summer, Hazelwood Central Hawks RB coach is implementing the 'Hawk's Hill Drill' to boost his team's explosive power. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps, with 30 seconds rest between sets. Players start at the top of a 10-yard hill, then sprint down to a designated line, where they perform a box jump onto a 24-inch box. Immediately, they transition into a lateral shuffle, shuffling 10 yards to the right and left. This drill translates to game performance by improving RBs' ability to quickly change direction and accelerate out of cuts. Coaching cues include: 'Drive through your heels,' 'Keep your knees bent,' and 'Focus on explosive power, not speed.' By incorporating the 'Hawk's Hill Drill' into their training, RBs can develop the power and agility needed to dominate on the field.
