FridayNightPulse Training Tip: CB Drills for Summer Success

๐Ÿ“ Rockhurst HawkletsยทTuesday, July 14, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

Quarterbacks aren't the only ones who need to be precise in their footwork. Cornerbacks need to be able to quickly change direction and maintain top-end speed to stay with receivers. The 'Ladder Weave' drill is a great way to improve a CB's agility and reaction time. Set up a ladder on the field and have the CB perform a series of lateral shuffles through the ladder, focusing on quick feet and staying low. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps and increase to 5 sets of 15 reps as the CB becomes more comfortable. Coaches should emphasize 'inside foot, outside foot' and 'keep your weight low' to help the CB maintain balance and speed. This drill translates to game performance by allowing the CB to quickly react to a receiver's cut and maintain top-end speed to stay with the play.
