FridayNightPulse: Power Through Contact with the RB Blast Drill

๐Ÿ“ Rockhurst HawkletsยทThursday, July 23, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

This summer, running backs at top programs like Rockhurst Hawklets, Park Hill South Panthers, St. Joseph's Indian, St. Louis University High, and St. Charles West Patriots are putting in the work with the RB Blast Drill. The goal is to improve a back's ability to power through contact and maintain top-end speed. The drill consists of 3 sets of 10 reps: 1) Start in a 3-point stance, 2) explode into a 10-yard sprint, 3) immediately plant and change direction, and 4) finish with a 5-yard cut. Coaches will yell 'Blast!' as the back explodes into the sprint. This drill translates to game performance by teaching backs to quickly accelerate and change direction, making them nearly unstoppable in the open field. Trainers will focus on proper footwork and hip drive to ensure backs can maintain speed and power through contact.
