FridayNightPulse: Tight End Training Tip for 6A Programs

๐Ÿ“ Starkville Yellow JacketsยทThursday, July 9, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

The Starkville Yellow Jackets' tight end position is crucial to their success, and a key drill to develop these players is the 'Box Out' drill. To set up, place three cones in a triangular formation, with the tight end starting at the apex. The coach or trainer will call out a defender's name, and the tight end must quickly release from the cone and box out the defender, using their feet and hands to create space. Perform 3 sets of 10 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include ' Feet, feet, feet' to emphasize the importance of footwork, and 'Hands up, hands up' to remind the tight end to use their hands to create separation. This drill translates to game performance by teaching tight ends to quickly release from blocks and create space in the passing game.
