Speed and Agility for S Players: The 5-Yard Shuttle Drill

๐Ÿ“ Olive Branch ConquistadorsยทMonday, July 13, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

For S players at 6A programs like Olive Branch Conquistadors, building speed and agility is crucial for success on the field. One effective drill to improve these skills is the 5-Yard Shuttle. This drill involves setting up two cones 5 yards apart, with the player starting at one cone. On the whistle, the player sprints to the other cone, then immediately changes direction and sprints back to the first cone. The player repeats this process for 3 sets of 10 reps. Coaching cues include keeping the head up, staying low, and exploding out of the turn. This drill translates to game performance by improving the player's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate in tight spaces, making them a more effective defender and ball carrier.
