Tight End Training: Starkville Yellow Jackets' Summer Camp Focus
This summer, 6A powerhouse Starkville Yellow Jackets are honing in on their tight end skills with a specific drill designed to improve blocking and receiving technique. The 'TE Tunnel Run' involves setting up 3-4 cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart. Players line up at the starting point and, on the coach's signal, sprint through the tunnel while maintaining a low, wide base. Upon reaching the end, they immediately pivot and return through the tunnel, this time focusing on high-low blocking techniques. Coaches provide real-time feedback on footwork, hand placement, and body positioning. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 2 minutes between sets. This drill translates to game performance by improving agility, reaction time, and the ability to adapt to changing blocking schemes. By incorporating the TE Tunnel Run into their summer camp routine, the Yellow Jackets are priming their tight ends for a dominant season.
