FridayNightPulse: 'Reads and React' Drill for Quarterbacks

๐Ÿ“ Kalispell Glacier WolfpackยทWednesday, July 29, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

At AA programs like Kalispell Glacier Wolfpack, quarterbacks need to be prepared for any situation on the field. The 'Reads and React' drill is designed to improve their ability to read defenses and make quick decisions. Set up a series of cones to create a 5-yard deep zone, with a defender playing press coverage. The quarterback will start 5 yards back, with a receiver running a 5-yard out route. The quarterback will read the defender's alignment and react accordingly. If the defender is in press coverage, the quarterback will throw a quick out. If the defender drops off, the quarterback will throw a deeper ball. Start with 3 sets of 10 reps, focusing on quick decisions and accurate throws. As the quarterback becomes more comfortable, add in additional defenders and routes to simulate game-like situations.
