FridayNightPulse: 'Rush the Passer' Drill for 3A Defensive Ends

๐Ÿ“ Shelby Golden LionsยทTuesday, July 14, 2026ยทFridayNightPulse Insider

To improve speed and agility, 3A defensive ends can benefit from the 'Rush the Passer' drill. This drill involves setting up cones in a zig-zag pattern, 5 yards apart, with a quarterback or coach at the end. The defensive end starts at the first cone, sprints to the second, then backpedals to the third, before accelerating to the fourth and finally, rushing the passer. Perform 3 sets of 5 reps, resting 30 seconds between sets. Coaching cues include: 'Fast feet, slow eyes' and 'Keep your head up, stay low.' This drill translates to game performance by improving the defensive end's ability to quickly change direction and accelerate off the snap, allowing them to pressure the quarterback and disrupt the offense.
